Hello all.
The most popular ocean (coastal) race in this area goes out around a government-maintaned buoy 11 NM offshore, and the race is named for the buoy. There's also a shorthanded version, named for the buoy, and several other races that use it as a mark on their course sheets.
Earlier this year the governement has proposed removing the mark and replacing it with a virtual AIS aid to navigation. I believe that proposal has been withdrawn in the latest LNTM, but nonetheless I'd like to understand what races are using virtual marks, and look the race documents for those races.
What races have virtual marks with appendix WP? Best practices?
To start the list, I know of:
* Chicago Mackinac uses a virtual gate (race documents in earlier post on Greg's thread)
* Pacific Northwest Offshore race uses virtual start & finish with YB trackers, per https://www.cycportland.org/pnwo-home, but I do not see a NOR
* Royal Victorian YC (BC) Swiftsure per Addendum D of https://www.swiftsure.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Swiftsure-2024-Three-Long-Courses-NoR-FINAL.pdf
Who else is using appendix WP?

We have been using virtual marks for a few years now since the USCG replaced the physical Duntze Rock buoy with an AIS AtoN. It works quite well in conjunction with Yellow Brick trackers.
This year we are adding a fully virtual start as well.
