Unless you find a way to sail off-planet, I see no safe distance is possible in your photo. Just lower your sails, throw anchor, and brace for impact.

National or regional regulations put in place due the the coronavirus are documents that govern an event. They are rules as per the definition.
In the same way as Irish laws on wearing PFD's apply to all sailing events here.
The problem that would arise is unlikely to be distance between boats (except at the start of an Oppie race) but distance between crew on each boat. Socialising before and after sailing would be impossible.
From a PR point of view a club continuing to sail would not be enhancing it's reputation as a responsible organisation!

Personally, here in Ireland, I will not be sailing, but until the regulations change, I will be going fishing either from the bank or on a boat (maintaining social distance). Most times I never see anyone on the river bank.

The boats themselves are all disqualified from competition due to their inherit inability to meet the qualifications as defined by the rules.  Only boats than  can be safely single-handed can qualify under the new, temporary set of rules (just because you can single hand a 60'er, doesn't mean you should in close quarters).  This list is by no means comprehensive but it is a good guide to inform competitors of their options.  And as the water is still cold in the Northern Hemisphere a flask of rum, bourbon, or rye is preferred to prevent over exposure and from potentially bringing the sport into disrepute with an uncivilized display of personal appearance.
